The City of Santa Clarita’s Thursdays@Newhall series, presented by Valencia Auto Center, rolls into summer with free events in Old Town Newhall during the month of June. Thursdays@Newhall is an ongoing opportunity for residents of Santa Clarita to attend free shows, concerts and special events on Thursdays throughout the year.

The schedule kicks off on June 7 when the Cha-Cha comes to JAM Sessions from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. The Cha-Cha is a happy, carefree and fun Latin dance. D’Wilfri DanceArt and Entertainment, based locally in Santa Clarita, will teach participants the ins and outs of this fun dance. In between instructional sessions, enjoy live music and show off what you’ve learned! JAM Sessions is hosted in conjunction with the Ford Theatre Foundation, bringing dance and original live performances to the Old Town Newhall Library, located at 24500 Main Street.

Also on June 7 at The MAIN (24266 Main Street), 10 performers will take the stage for 10 minutes each and share their comedy, storytelling, short films and music at the monthly 10 by 10 show from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Performances this month include storytelling by Katsy Chappell, Greg Cromer and Michael Dougherty; comedy by Steve Saracino and Glenn Bolton; music by Mark Christian, Tom Alfera and Ric Taylor; magic by Joshua Johnson; and a screening of the short film “Wedlocked.”

The first Game Night of the year comes to Variety Night and will take place on June 14 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Whether you are feeling a bit competitive or just looking for some good old fun, grab a friend or two to join you on Main Street! The event will be filled with tailgate games, table-top games, life-size games and much more. Play for fun or go for the gold!

Also on June 14, local musicians will take the stage for Note by Note inside The MAIN from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Note by Note is a free musical showcase delighting audiences with a variety of genres. Bands, duos and soloists will perform a wide range of styles, including rock, folk, Celtic, Americana, blues, jazz, country, experimental, western and more! Featured performers in June include Jeff Mann, Christopher Ramirez, Tracy Lee Nelson and The New Mexican. Artists interested in performing at Note by Note can learn more at ThursdaysAtNewhall.com/NotebyNote.

A world full of sweets descends on Main Street at the Candyland SENSES Block Party on June 21 from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. This candy-inspired theme truly hits all your senses! Savor something sweet with select food tastings, test your smell at the Gingerbread Plum Trees and wander through the Lollipop Woods and Peppermint Forest. Be careful not to get stuck in the Molasses Swamp! For adults who believe that candy is dandy, but liquor is quicker, grab a drink from the on-street bar hosted by Newhall Refinery.

On June 21, an art reception will be held from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. inside The MAIN. This month’s featured exhibit is by artist Kitty Cutshall. The exhibit, “Toxikologie,” creates an image where the pinnacles of human toxicity and innocence come together. Guests attending this free reception will enjoy light appetizers, entertainment and a chance to meet the artist.

Thursdays@Newhall wraps up the month on June 28 with the New Heights Artist Development Series. This month’s panel discussion is titled, “Variety Is the Spice of Life: How to Develop Multiple Creative Outlets,” and features artists who have developed a variety of ways to express themselves creatively while being able to monetize those activities. The three panelists in June are Susan Lee, Ian Johnston and Jennifer Fischer. Learn more about each panelist by visiting ThursdaysAtNewhall.com/NewHeights.
