SCV Water Board approves dissolution of Valencia Water Company

Posted on: 01/13/2018 00:00

“With tonight’s actions, we deliver on the promise of elected representation for all water customers in Santa Clarita Valley,” said Bill Cooper, president of the SCV Water board of directors.

In their second meeting of the year, the 15-member board approved the dissolution of Valencia Water Company. The action will formally transfer assets, property and liabilities, as well as all VWC employees, into SCV Water.

Previously a private water company, VWC was purchased by the former Castaic Lake Water Agency in 2012.

The dissolution is expected to be complete by January 31, 2018. As specified in SB 634, authored by Senator Scott Wilk, this action is the final step to unify the four largest water providers which serve most of the Santa Clarita Valley. It follows the January 1, 2018 inception of SCV Water, when CLWA and Newhall County Water District became one entity. SB 634 also established electoral districts, insuring equal elected representation for all water customers within the boundaries of SCV Water.

“An integrated approach to water supply and delivery in the valley means a better use of our resources,” said Cooper, “environmentally and financially.”
