Here’s what we know about the Thomas fire in Ventura County

(dailynews.com) Driven by fierce winds and dry conditions, the Thomas fire has forced the evacuation of thousands of homes in the Santa Paula area as fast-moving flames spread in the Ventura County foothills.

•It’s burned up to 10,000 acres in the area of Santa Paula, which is about an hour north by car from Woodland Hills, in Los Angeles.

•It’s being blamed for one death, due to an automobile accident.

•At least two buildings have been reported destroyed as of shortly after midnight.

•1,000 homes are being evacuated, as of around midnight. The Ventura County Sheriff’s Office has ordered mandatory evacuations for the Hwy 150 corridor north of Monte Vista in Santa Paula. The order notice affects all residents and businesses in the area north of Santa Paula along Hwy 150 north of Monte Vista.

Evacuation orders are mandatory for:

• 436 homes east of Dickenson Road, north of Monte Vista Drive along Highway 150 and South of Thomas Aquinas College to the area of Bridge Road.

•154 homes west of Dickenson Road to Atmore Road, north of Foothill Road and west to Wheeler Canyon Road

•213 homes north of Highway 150 from Koenigstein Road west to the Dennison Grade, north to Reeves Road, east to McAndrew Road and north to Grand Avenue.

•Authorities say the fire could reach the city of Ventura by 1 a.m.

Closed roads include:

Soft Road Closures (Residents will need to provide proper identification to access their homes.):

Wheeler Canyon Road at Foothill Road

Highway 150 at Reeves Road

Highway 150 at Santa Barbara St

Hard Road Closures (Only public safety personnel will have access.):

Highway 150 at Sisar Road

Highway 150 at Stonegate Road

Wells Road at Foothill Road

Peck Road at Foothill Road

•Ventura County Fire was asking people to leave impact areas early as firefighting equipment needed access to continue structure protection operations.

•Evacuation centers are Ventura Fairgrounds (10 W Harbor Blvd, Ventura) and Nordoff high school ( 1401 Maricopa Hwy, Ojai, CA 93023 in Ojai)
